4 Ways to Support Coats for Colorado 2018

Several men's and women's coats are hanging on a coat rack in front of a brick wall.

As the leaves change color and the temperature drops, we’re reminded here in Colorado that our weather has a mind of its own. It can be in the high-60s one day, then in the 20s the next. That’s why those of us who live in Colorado know to always keep a heavy coat around, just in case we’re hit with a chilly storm out of the blue.

But many people throughout the state aren’t able to purchase a new coat for themselves or their kids every year. That’s why in 1982, Dependable Cleaners created Coats for Colorado. For almost 40 years, Coats for Colorado has collected thousands of coats every year to clothe those in need of a heavy winter coat. More than two million coats have been collected, and Dependable Cleaners partners with 120+ non-profits to give out coats – free of charge.

Here are 4 ways to support Coats for Colorado this year:

Buy a new coat for someone in need.

If you don’t have any gently used coats laying around that could be donated, consider going out and purchasing a new coat or two. Coats for Colorado is looking for coats in all different sizes, but the organization is specifically in need of children’s coats, as well as men’s coats in XXL – which will help those who are working outside during freezing temperatures. If you’re buying a new coat for the cause, keep in mind that thick, heavy coats are requested, as these coats will last through the coldest of Colorado days. An Amazon wishlist has also been created to make it easier to purchase a new coat.

Donate a gently used coat.

If you aren’t able to purchase a new coat to donate this year, we suggest looking through your coat closet at home. If you have coats that you’ve barely worn, consider donating them. Many of us are blessed to have several winter coats at home to choose from. But by donating one of your coats, you could help someone in great need. If you have kids, look through their coats to find one that is barely used and doesn’t fit them anymore. Children in need would greatly benefit from getting a heavy coat of their own this winter.

Host your own collection drive.

Looking for a way to inspire those around you to also donate to Coats for Colorado? By hosting a coat collection drive of your own, you could collect even more coats for those in need. Ask your workplace, community center, church, or even your friends and family if they’ll consider donating a new or gently used coat. By multiplying your efforts, we can collect even more coat donations this year. Information on holding your own drive can be found on the Coats for Colorado website.

Shop online via AmazonSmile.

If Amazon is your go-to for online shopping, you can keep making purchases while also donating a portion of your transaction to Coats for Colorado. It’s called AmazonSmile, and the process is simple. Go to the Coats for Colorado AmazonSmile page, log in with your Amazon credentials, and start shopping. For every eligible item purchased, 0.5% will be directly donated to Coats for Colorado. And the best part is that you can help all year long. Just be sure to log back in to AmazonSmile in order to benefit the cause.

Thank you to everyone who is helping us raise coats for adults and children throughout the state! We’re hoping for another successful year in order to make sure everyone in Colorado is warm this winter season – and all year long.
