At Dependable Cleaners, we know that no matter how clean and pristine your clothing is, if it doesn’t exactly fit correctly on your frame, you’re not going to be comfortable wearing it. Our passion is clothing—and serving those that wear the clothing we are entrusted with. That’s why Dependable Cleaners offers quick, accurate, and kind tailoring and alteration services at each of our 20+ locations across Colorado.
If you’re not familiar with having your clothes tailored, you might not know what to expect from an alterations appointment. You might not even know why you should tailor your clothes in the first place. Either way, here are Dependable Cleaners, we are here to help with all of your tailoring and alterations needs. Here are a few important things to consider about tailoring and alterations at Dependable Cleaners.
Why Alter or Tailor Your Clothes?
In the old days before clothing was mass-manufactured, tailoring your clothes was the only way to dress, and having a good tailor (as opposed to a cheap one) was a status symbol. This tradition of tailoring continues on today—there’s no denying that a sharp, crisp fit on your clothes is one of the best ways to set yourself apart with your personal style. There are also other benefits to having your clothes tailored, though. For instance, if you know you’ll have the help of a tailor to adjust the way your clothing fits, you won’t have to spend as much time at the department store or the boutique hemming and hawing over whether a piece of clothing fits just so. You can have the tailor make whatever modifications you need so that your fit is perfect every single time.

What to Expect During an Alterations Appointment
At Dependable Cleaners, we can make you an appointment for alterations on almost any item of clothing, but we tend to see more appointments for special occasion wear or crisp business suits than anything else. We can tailor wedding dresses, suits and jackets, pants, and so much more. We know it can be nerve wracking handing over something as special as a wedding dress, which is why our seamstresses and tailoring professionals are all familiar with working with formal wear.
If you’ve never been to the tailor before, you should expect to have your measurements taken—whether for alterations on a suit or a dress—and then depending on your needs, the tailor will either suggest “taking in” your clothes in certain areas (decreasing the amount of fabric in a specific area, in order to tighten the fit) or “letting out” your clothes in other areas (increasing the amount of breathing room in the fabric, in order to loosen the fit). You might also have your pants legs or dress hemmed, or shortened, depending on your specific needs. When working with a tailor, you’ll want to come in with strong opinions on how you’d like your clothing to fit, and speak clearly about what you’re hoping the overall finished look will be. Just like with a hairdresser, the clearer you are with your tailor, the better they can help you get what you want.
